When Winter Collides with Autumn

"Today is the last day of Autumn in my gardens... I feel it in my bones. That plus the weatherman is forecasting a big change for tomorrow... snow and snow and more snow with temps dipping into the low teens. Looks like Old Man Winter is gonna stay this time. Enjoying the last bit of color in my gardens."

Those were my FB thoughts of yesterday.

Here's what's dancin through my head this morning
as I took a walk through my gardens collecting photos...

Yikes!

It's so c-c-cold!

You gotta be kidding me!

I"m freezing!

I can see my breath!

My fingers are turning blue!

Literally.

Silly Old Winter...

doesn't he know he's not suppose to be here
until December 21st?

I'm so not ready for Winter.

Snow here, fortunately, is a very rare event.  However, I felt the same way about fall.  Up until last week it was still summer, or it felt like it, and them bam!  Frost!   Sometimes I wish it could be spring all year, but then it wouldn't be as interesting. Even though it's cold, the snow is beautiful, especially against those maple leaves.

  7. Sounds like you had a collision, too!  I feel the same about Spring, although I've come to realize that there really is beauty in every season.

  9. You have a blue leaf?? WOW! That's new! We're still experiencing fall here, which is great because I still have garden chores to do. I have a hot date with 10 yds of mulch this weekend. Party on! :o) Gorgeous photos!

  10. Only blue because it's freezing... :)
Enjoy the mulch party... that's always a big event in our gardens. We wait until the Spring as Winter tends to bring the Highland winds that tends to redistribute our mulch with all the neighborhood.

  12. Hi Carolyn, I hope you manage to stay warm, it may be freezing, but the compensation is the beautiful images you've shot in the snow.

  19. I so agree with the other commenters! I love the shots of autumn leaves with snow. We've had flurries, but no accumulation yet, and I am very happy about that! But the photos are gorgeous.

  21. Just heard  that some of the ski resorts are opening tomorrow. It's officially Winter, never mind what the calendar says.

  23. Gosh I love that header photo.... and all your photos from today.  I love to look at your winter photos, but could never survive weather like that.

  24. I always wonder if I will survive... I don't like the extreme cold... but somehow I always do.

  26. I so love the snow shots. I know many do not like when winter brings snow, but it is my favorite time of year. I so love where you live and the beautiful images that you take. I lived in Salt Lake City one winter for skiing, and would love to get out there again.

  31. The photo ops is what keeps me going when Winter comes. I do try to find beauty in every season... but sometimes just through the windows.

  32. Lovely photos, but that blue leaf caught my eye for sure. Did you enhance that? :) Anyway I'm not ready either, but hearing that are Winter is suppose to be mild again this year.

  34. Hi Carolyn, that winter snow looks lovely. Very cold too, I can just imagine. When I was about 12 I used to go skiing with my parents, at  Jindabyne in the snowy mountains, and since then on a few occasions we have managed to catch some snow up in the Blue Mountains. I love it as long as I'm warm. Best Wishes Karen.

  35. As I get older, I feel much the same.  I don't last very long out there when the temps are so low.
