We Interrupt this Saturday for...

Saturday is a work day at our house. It's our get it done day so that on Sunday we can rest and enjoy the fruits of our labor. It's how we roll. This time of year you will find us out working in the gardens, bright and early, at the break of dawn. Saturday mornings in our gardens are magical!

I LOVE the feeling of working hard side by side with my Honeyman.
It is pure joy for me.

I've been dreaming about our project all week long. Today is the day we are going to finish it. Can you feel my exhaleration?  I jumped out of my bed and ran to the window to greet my day.

Oh, no!

Not today!

Not on SATURDAY!

This is what I woke up to...

SNOW in my gardens.

But I've got work to do! (Big sigh.)

In my heart I really do equate garden work with sheer pleasure.
Disappointed doesn't even begin to express how I feel.

I decided to make the most of it and take some pics to feed the blog.

It is quite beautiful out there.

Sorry trusty wheelbarrow... not today.

Looks like I won't be cleaning the fountain either.

The Japanese Maple leaves don't seem to mind the snow.

Nor do the Eastern Redbuds that are about to bloom.
I did NOT Photoshop this blue blue sky.
Amazing! It was the last pic I took and the sun lit up the scene.

Unfurling leaves seem undeterred.

And the mock orange seems to delight in her new "do".

The robins are still singing their morning song.
They're going to miss the entertainment we provide.

The hostas are still doing their thing...

and the tulips are happy for the warm blanket of snow.
(The air is 26°)

 Crazy Beautiful!
The winds that brought the storm got these petals all mixed up.

I look up from my keyboard to see the view from my window...

Oh!
Happy Happy!
JOY JOY!

It's melting, it's melting!

We can work out there after all!
(Groans are heard in the not so far distance.)

Apparently not everyone shares my love of Saturdays in the gardens.

We'll have to work on that.

  1. Couldn't stop grinning reading about Saturday yard work. Oh how I hated that! In fact it took me a few months after I married and moved out to realize I was FREE on Saturday mornings and could just watch tv all day if I wanted ;)
    Looks like fun though....

  2. Hi,

Wow, snow? I'd be distraught if we got some now... I hope it's melted for you and you managed to get your jobs done!

  3. Sorry the snow interrupted your Saturday but it did provide for some beautiful photos.

  4. That is just so wrong in so many ways. It is just wrong for it to snow when flowers are in bloom.

  5. It might be snowing and even melting for you now, but the photographs of your garden in the snow are pure magic to me! I love the snow ... and we don't get snow here where I live in South Africa, so thanks for letting me dream a little via your lovely photos!

  6. Oh, I feel for you. I did read that snow has hit some areas. The weather this year is absolutely bonkers. The snow is beautiful, but haven't we all had ours share already?

  8. Yikes, I guess 50s and 60s and rain isn't so bad. Sorry about the snow. But your photos are magical as always!

  9. The snow is beautiful but I'd cry if we got snow until this late in the year! You must be well used to it.

  10. Snow! I can not complain about our rainy Spring here in Maryland. Pictures are beautiful, especially the contrast of the red belly of Robin against the white snow.

  11. Talk about the best laid plans, and all that...

But Carolynn, I am sure that you had a backup plan for the day, LOL.

  13. I was in utter disbelief...it can't be...not snow...but it did make a lovely brief coating to your colorful garden...hope it didn't do much damage...

  14. I just have a sinking feeling we're not done with the snow yet either. It's almost cold enough, 32 last night. No snow this morning, just cold drizzle.

I hope you had a very fun day in the gardens after it all melted. Your pictures are stunning as always. Love that blue sky!

  15. Carolyn my jaw just about hit the floor when I saw your "magic" snow fall ! .. That is something I would expect to happen here in Kingston, the Twilight Zone for weather.
But having said that .. your pictures are simply beautiful and the "melt" factor was happening quickly so work (which we gardeners all feel is a labor of love even with the groans and moans) can be started after all.
It will look amazing and you have these awesome pictures to remind you of that something special happened for that Saturday in May !
    Joy : )
